![]() It is homey and cozy yet ample for visitors to move about. My favorite location in the hostel is the living room the setting is every bit as or more comfortable than any house or apartment where I lived. I can tell you from 16 years of experience managing this property, that this hostel does not make a profit, we are clearly in the non-profit realm! We hope you try our dorms out again once we re-open this summer. I hear your concerns and we try our best to keep our prices as low as possible and be an affordable accommodation for all. The cost of everything has gone up considerably since the pandemic and with inflation, it costs what it costs to be able to provide the service here in a very expensive part of the country. When we fully re-open back to "normal" operations on June 1st, 2023, our 5-bed private rooms will be $150/night and dorm beds will be $50/person/night. We are still recovering operationally from the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, the 5-bed private rooms cost $130 and dorm beds were $39/person, rates that had not changed in several years. The $150 you quoted is the price for a private room that can sleep up to 5 people, not an individual dorm bed. I certainly didn't pay 150 FREAKING DOLLARS!!! This place is supposed to be a hostel, a H-O-S-T-E-L.honestly, I don't see anything in the photos here to suggest that a major upgrade has occurred such as a swimming pool, sauna, turndown, shuttles, room service, and fine dining as part of the amenities!! Are there no limits to greedy price gouging in California? Are there no limits to discouraging low and middle income wage earners from taking much needed getaways? I guess you don't think so, PRH managers!!!… My stay in 2014 was my first experience with the additional outbuildings, and I seem to remember it cost ~$35 a night. Still, it was super fun and I have fond memories of the place. That said, how the hell do the managers justify a nightly price tag of $150? Back in the 80s 90s, I think it cost something like 15 bucks a night if it was that much.the place back then was just the single main cottage with a couple of rooms filled with bunk beds. I am a Native Californian and have stayed at PRH a total of three times in my life.once in the 80s, once in the 90s, and again in 2014.
